The Sierra Leone Bar Association’s secretary general, Mustapha Turay, has congratulated the chief electoral commissioner of the National Electoral Commission (NEC) and her entire commission and the people of Sierra Leone for conducting peaceful and violence free elections.
He added that his association participated actively in the elections process, and the association was grateful to NEC for according it an observer status.
The secretary general stated that as an association, “we are elated that our observers were given unrestricted access to the various polling centres.”
He further stated that, “we are thrilled by the level of maturity, tolerance and patience shown by Sierra Leoneans all over the country during the voting exercise”.
Mr Turay explained that, “our observers have informed us that the voting process went on peacefully all over the country. Saved for isolated skirmishes and delays in the commencement of voting in some of the polling centres, the process was orderly and very well organized.”
He added that, “we appreciate the efforts of the Sierra Leone Police, our fellow observers both local and foreign and the respective party agents”.
The secretary general opined that, “we urged all stakeholders to exercise maximum patience and restraint while awaiting the results of the elections so that we all continue to nurture our democracy”.
