In a bid to further improve the human resource and music teaching at The Ballanta Academy of Music, the institution, through its exchange programme with Wells Cathedrals in the United Kingdom had sent Charlie King, Teacher and Administrative Assistant of Ballanta to the UK-Wells Cathedral for tuition on voice conduction. He has since returned to share his experience with the school.
Explaining to Awoko about the experience gained Charlie disclosed that he attended training on the use of instruments like saxophone and other classical instruments, and learning sessions on musical instruments that he had never used before.
In a happy mood at the conference Hall of Ballanta Academy of Music situated along Liverpool Street, Charlie King said that he attended choir sessions and other performances in Wales, London and other places which have given him more insight on the need to develop the music industry in the country.
He pointed out that there is need to introduce advanced methods in musicology by making available instruments that are not present in the country. He maintained that the absence of these needed instruments has had negative effect on the level of music education among talents.
By this means he assured much more gains would be achieved in the art of music thereby improving the standards on the style of music and the condition of musicians.
Since his arrival last Monday, Charlie said he has been putting plans together to strengthen his voice classes at Ballanta. Despite the fact that the school, through its exchange programmes with Wells Cathedral is paving the way for the growth of music industry in Sierra Leone, Charlie urged music talents to put more effort and dedication in their work, as he claimed, people are more relaxed towards improving their talents.
He also observed that lot of people cannot exhibit their talents because of lack of finance.
Charlie King was a student of Ballanta Academy of Music and since his graduation, he has taught at the school for the past three years. Through the Ballanta-Wells exchange programme- a programme in which students from Wells Cathedral visit Ballanta in Sierra Leone and Ballanta in return does the same, Charlie was chosen by Ballanta in one of the exchange programmes to go to the UK for training in voice conduction backed up with other programmes geared towards further improvement of the school of music.
