The defending champion of the ECOWAS peace cycling tour for Mano River Union Countries Augustine Sesay has won the 8th edition of the Kaffu Bullom Cycling competition in Lungi which was sponsored by the Sierra Leone Airports Authority and held on Sunday instead of Easter Monday.
During the 72 miles competition Augustine Sesay clocked a time of 3hrs, 21 minutes 51 seconds. In second position was the National Team captain Moses Sesay who clocked a time of 3 hrs, 26 minutes 52 seconds and in third position was Mohamed Thorley a new comer to the National team clocked a time of 3 hrs; 26 minutes 53 seconds. The first three cyclists also took home a trophy each plus cash prizes.
About 20 cyclists’s country wide took part in the competition which was tough, thrilling and exciting. As the race progressed crowds of people who lined up the routes cheered and supported the cyclists to victory.
During the presentation ceremony at the Airport Canteen the president of the association Winston Crowther in his statement said that the event is not a cycling event but a Bullom event that was why he was appealing to the people of Bullom to register a lot of cyclists for the competition.
He recalled that for the past two years now only one cyclist have been representing Bullom which is not good for the competition as the host.
He also stated that for the past years it has been very difficult to organize such a competition, adding that he and the executive had to put in extra efforts in order to achieve their goals.
He also praised the Sierra Leone Airports Authority for sponsoring such an annual event for the past years now.
The chairman of the programme A K Dabo who is also accountant at the Sierra Leone Airports Authority, in his own statement on behalf of Sierra Leone Airports Authority, said that they will do everything in their power to make sure that next year’s competition is a bigger one.
He also assured the executive that they will start the arrangement very early next year so that the association will have enough time to prepare well for the competition. He ended up with a word of praise for President Crowther for his transparency in doing business with them for the past years.
