Augustine Sesay over the weekend has won the first edition of the Eastern Region championship covering a distance of 70 miles starting from Kenema and ends in Kono.
In second position was Moses Sesay and Suleiman Thomas came third while Mohamed Thorley was in fourth position.
The competition was sponsor by the Lion Stone Sierra Leone, a renowned diamond mining company in the country.
Speaking to Awoko, the winner of the competition Augustine Sesay said he was happy to win the competition as he has lost the last competition at Lungi.
He said the competition is not bad but the road was not too good compared to the other roads they have been used to ride on.Augustine stated that he was able to win the race because he has the mind to ride in such road while some of the other cyclists did not have the heart, which was why he won the competition.
Augustine stated that during the first phase from Kenema to Tongo which was 27 and half miles, he came first with a time of 1 hour 36 minutes and in the second phase to Koidu in Kono he was third but over all he had the best time.
Augustine stated that he his now looking on to the Maltina race, as the defending champion, he is going all out to defend is title that is why as from today June 1st “I am going to start training to maintain my position in the next competition”.
