The leader and Presidential aspirant of the United Democratic Movement (UDM) Mohamed Bangura on Thursday appeared in red attire on nomination day of the All People Congress and described it as ‘political tolerance’.
Addressing the sympathizers and supporters of the APC at State House, just after President Koroma’ s address to the people to keep the peace and move around quietly, as elections are not a do or die affair, Mohamed Bangura maintained that political parties should see each other as partners in development, but not as enemies.
He disclosed that his appearance in red shirt and cap was deliberate, as he wants to demonstrate political tolerance; as the people of Sierra Leone have shown that they want peaceful elections, so the politicians should do the same.
In an interview with people who were around State House when Mohamed Bangura had finished his address, some appreciated his appearance in solidarity with their party. Another APC party stalwart, Amara Bai Sesay said that all political parties were invited to the APC
Nomination day but only Mohammed Bangura (UDM) showed up. “There is nothing wrong with him being here and wearing our party colours because that is the colour of the day and he is just showing political tolerance.
A student, Mohamed Mansaray says he sees nothing wrong with the UDM leader supporting the APC. “After all, Charles Margai and PMDC supported the APC to win in 2007”.
However another SLPP supporter Mathew Solomon told Awoko Mohammed Bangura was just confirming what they had known all along that he is an APC stooge, brought to the political arena to help the APC win the elections. “He is not serious about contesting for the presidency but just wants to cause confusion”. People now that he is just playing a game. In African politics that is very dangerous. Even in 2007,it was after the elections first round, that the PMDC aligned with the APC, not before the elections.
