The long awaited Sierra Leone Football Association congress that should have paved the way for a new executive has been postponed almost 20 hours to its start. The new date for the congress is now July 18-19
The reason for the postponement of the congress according to the Ex-Officio member of SLFA and chairman of the West Area Football Association (WAFA) Alhaji Alim Sesay
who chaired the meeting said “it is incumbent on us by article 27 to circularize and to lay before congress certain documents for discussion and approval including the audited accounts.” He went on “unfortunately and regrettably these documents are not ready due to the fact that we have been taken aback by events notably the participation of our darling Leone Stars in the FIFA World Cup and CAF 2010 qualifying series during the last month and the pressure of work on our auditors. He mentioned that during this time of the year “we would want to appeal to our members partners and affiliates through this medium to show understanding and be patient till the next few weeks, when these documents would have been ready, circularized and eventually tabled before congress for discussion and approval.”
Some Stakeholders from the Southern Region who are presently in town for the SLFA elective congress have reacted angrily on the postponement.
Speaking to Awoko sport at the national Stadium the Edison Shaka the Secretary General Southern Region Football Association said that they have given them notification that the congress should be held this weekend so he decided to get all the 13 delegates from the Southern region to come to town.
He said that nobody informed them about the postponement and they just heard it over the radio. He lamented that this is the most distressing thing for them and they find it “very very unacceptable.”
He said as delegates they are coming to sit down with their brothers from the Eastern region, Northern region and the Western Area to state their position on this situation.
He went further that few men cannot just sit down and decide the fate of football in the country. He noted further that they do not respect the constitution at all that brought them to power.
He stated that this present SLFA is a bunch of disappointing fellows who want to take the game back and he will not be a party to it.
He noted that if this present SLFA executive cannot prepare an audited accounts report within their four years in power they cannot do it within two weeks – this is a big blow to them.
He mentioned that as delegates we are going to take decision and make it known to the press their stance on the whole matter.
He revealed that an elective congress is two parts the financial part is one and the election is another part so if the financial part is not yet prepared the other one can go on which is the election and later they will look at the finances.
The other delegate who expressed the same sentiment about the postponement of the SLFA congress is Alieu O Kpaka the chairman Bonthe district association.
