The condition of 17 year-old Fatmata Turay is getting worse, as the days goes by, since she can no longer eat solid food and looks very skeletal.
The parents of Fatmata are with her as she is presently admitted at the Connaught Hospital to assist in the process of getting the child flown out of the country, even though all documents to facilitate travelling to Ghana have been prepared but until now, she is still in the country suffering painfully.
Isha Bangura, mother of the victim, told Awoko that for almost nine (9) months now when girl’s tooth was extracted by one Dr. Mohamed Kamara of the Ahmadiyaa Hospital at Calaba Town, she has been going from one medical doctor to another, to make her condition better but instead her conditions keeps on deteriorating and she has spent almost all of her savings on her health.
Isha explained that after two weeks when Fatmata’s tooth was extracted in March, she started complaining again about toothache and was taken to the same Dr. Kamara who prescribed some drugs for her, which she took but the condition did not improve.
As this continued, she decided to take her to Dr. Don Davies who asked them to do an ex-ray and the result read by the Doctor was that a capsule had been formed in the gum. “He therefore suggested a surgery which he did. We went home few days after surgery.”
During school vacation, the mother went on, she went to her grandmother in Makeni, where she started experiencing the same pain and was taken to the Makeni Government hospital but they could not treat her since the doctors said did not have her medical history.
Isha further told Awoko that she returned with her daughter to Dr. Don Davies who referred them to Mercy Ship in Guinea as she was suffering of Burkitt Lymphoma “but Mercy Ship also could help as they said Dr. Bayoh will be able to handle treatment of such. We returned to Freetown but I could not go to another doctor since I have now run short of finance. I started taking her to the Faith Healing Bible Church.”
Fatmata Turay who has now bed sore all over her waist and back could not sit, nor stand upright, as she is now confined to bed at Connaught by Dr. Alhaji Kisito Dao.She can no longer eat, with part of her gum shooting out of her mouth and her condition keeps deteriorating.
This referral was made, the mother said, when they met with Harriet Danjaji who took them to an Ear &Throat specialist who also recommended another x-ray. One of them was done at Choithrams Hospital and the result from Choithrams diagnosed epulis and not Burkitt Lymphoma.
However Harriet Danjaji who has supporting them said the documents that was supposed to be sent to Ghana for the doctors to determine if they can treat her has still not been sent to Ghana. Therefore the child is still in the country suffering with pain.
Danjaji said “her swollen face has taken a different dimension and she is in constant pain. She needs urgent attention.”
Even thought she said, there has been support from people but if the document are not sent to Ghana she will be the country until otherwise. “we are therefore calling on spymathisers to come to the aid of this poor SSS 3 girl to save her life.” Harriet Danjaji said.
