Sierra Leone’s Premier League Champions, Ports Authority yesterday, Tuesday moved into camp with 23 players ahead of their first leg CAF Club Champions showdown with their Guinean counterparts, Horoya Atletico at the National Stadium main bowl in Freetown next Saturday. The entire team including the Technical Staff will be camped at the Kingtom Football Academy.
Speaking to Awoko Sport before the team went into camp; the team’s Coach, Christian Cole expressed optimism that his boys will live up to expectation despite a poor run of matches in the ongoing premier league.
“I am conceding to the fact that we’ve not had good matches in the league but the weekend match against Horoya will be a different affair. We have improved a lot in the past couple of days and the result in Kenema last Friday is a clear manifestation that the boys have rediscovered their form,” Coach Christian Cole said.
However, executive members of Ports Authority FC are calling on all Sierra Leonean football fans to rally behind the team on Saturday as they will be defending the national flag.
The President of the club, Abdul Hamid Kanasieu noted, “it is not only about Ports Authority, it’s about love, unity and solidarity,” and called on Sierra Leoneans to go to the stadium in their numbers to fly the green and yellow colours alongside the national flag colours in every corner of the stadium’s main bowl. He urged them to also be supportive by cheering the team from start to finish of the match.
Meanwhile, the Ports team has received a major boost with the arrival of striker, Donald Wellington who was on loan to Swedish side, Varnamo.
He has been training with the team throughout the off season period and he is physically and mentally fit for the match, according to team’s doctors.
In a related development, the runners-up in last year’s league FC Kallon are expected to depart for Cameroon today to face their Cameroonian opponents in the first leg of the CAF competition with a 25-man delegation including 18 players and 7 officials.
