Inspector-General of Police Francis Munu has called on the nation to be calm, as it waits for NEC to announce final results of the General Elections.
The IG said that so far, people have conducted themselves very well especially on polling day and said that MACP was activated to help maintain law and order and not to antagonize anyone.
“So far we have seen co-operation from all, apart from isolated cases of two possessions of deadly weapons on Election Day and also thieves had seized the opportunity to conduct raids on private homes. The thieves however had run out of luck when police patrols apprehended three of them at Johnny Paul Drive Juba and also three others who had attempted to steal at the newly-opened Chinese Hospital at Jui.
The IG also told Awoko yesterday that generally all was quiet but that some youths who attempted to cause trouble in Kailahun when they stormed the Police station to release one suspect who was arrested, had to be put under control and dispersed, while they stoned and destroyed the building and wounded police. This, he said caused the Police to enforce a temporary curfew in the town but that now all had returned to normal.
He also warned that anyone caught breaking the law before the results are announced will be arrested and kept till after the announcement of the final election results.
