Former Vice-President, Solomon Ekuma Berewa yesterday paid a courtesy call on President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma on his re-election.
The former VP urged the man who edged him out of the race to State House in 2007, to continue the good work has been doing in Sierra Leone.
He said that it was only President Koroma who can unify the country and act like a father for all Sierra Leoneans.
According to VP ‘Solo B’ as he was fondly called, national cohesion was needed more than anything else, to continue the ongoing development and transformation of the country. He prayed for God’s guidance and mercies for President Koroma to continue to steer the country in the right direction.
In welcoming the former VP, President Ernest Bai Koroma said the visit has further strengthened democracy in the country, adding that he respected the stance of the VP as a member of the SLPP. President Koroma also noted that what matters most now was the development of Sierra Leone.
“We need to work together and move the country forward”, he said, and went on to reveal that he will continue to engage everyone irrespective of which party people belong to, and “I will extend the olive branch to the SLPP by inviting their leadership to a frank discussion on the way forward for Mama Sierra Leone”.
The move by the former Vice President is seen by many observers as a demonstration of statesmanship at a time when the main opposition party SLPP is contesting many aspects of the recently held elections.
