On Saturday, in the ongoing Salone Premier League, newcomer in the league, FC Johansen maintained their unbeatable record in 28 games in all competitions when they defeated Wusum Stars by two goals to one (2-1) at the Wusum field in Makeni.
It was FC Johansen who got the curtain raiser before host; Wusum Stars leveled the score line. FC Johansen however eventually got the most important goal which turned out to be the winning goal thus securing all three vital points.
FC Johansen’s Secretary General, Lansana Claye who also doubles as the Public Relation Officer as said the winning is very important to them even though they should have scored at least four goals if the boys had made good use of the chances made available to them.
FC Johansen now have 15 points from 7 matches played and are lying in second position behind Diamond Stars who are leading the table after their three goals to nil (3-0) thrashing of Kissy All Stars on the same day at the Koidu playing field in Kono.
Diamond Stars have maintained a four consecutive win in recent times. Their next match is expected to be against Mighty Blackpool in Koidu City.
On the same Saturday at the National Stadium in Freetown, Old Edwardians also continued their good runs to defeat Gem Stars by a goal to nil, with the only goal scored by the Old Edwardian Captain, Magnus Campbell in the early minutes of the game. They now have secured 10 points from 6 matches played.
Old Edwardians Coach Amidu Karim said registering third winning in the league is good for his team. He noted that his boys are improving on the game gradually and disclosed that they are planning to beef up the squad in one or two positions especially the attacker front during the April transfer window.
Gem Stars are lying in 12th position with only 3 points from 6 matches played and losing 5 matches.
