Burkina Faso has emerged as Champion of the 2nd edition of the ECOWAS International Cycling Tour which ended over the weekend in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.
Second position went to Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana 3rd, and Senegal 4th, Togo 5th Mali 6th, Nigeria 7th, Benin 8th, and Sierra Leone in 9th position above Guinea, Equatorial Guinea, Liberia, Niger and The Gambia.
During the tour, the Cyclists covered the following circuit stages: Stage 1-Lagos to Contonou,
Stage 2- Ouidah(Benin) to Lome,
Stage 3- Ada to Accra (all in Ghana)
Stage 4- Aboisso to Abidjan (all in Cote d’Ivoire)
A total of 68 top class cyclists from all the ECOWAS states took part in the cycling tour organized by the ECOWAS Youth and Sports Development Centre (EYSCD).
The tour brought together senior national cycling teams from the entire ECOWAS member states aimed at promoting the strengthening of the ECOWAS protocol on free movement of goods and persons and to strengthen regional integration efforts.
Sierra Leone’s cycling delegation comprised four cyclists and they include the team Captain, Moses Sesay, Augustine Sesay, Suleiman Bah and Mohamed Thorlley and two officials, the President of the Cycling Association, Winston D.C. Crowther and the Vice President Augustus Barnes.
