The Art Center Sports Club has concluded its 19th anniversary after a well attended thanksgiving service at St Paul’s Catholic Church at the Seminary in Regent.
Delivering the sermon on the theme ‘If anyone wants to be first, he must make himself servant of all’, Rev. Gustav Johnson, who is also a member of the club, told members to be servants if they want to lead. He said nobody will ever succeed in a top position if he fails to understand that he is a servant because he is working for the furtherance of the organization or club.
He praised the executive and members of the club for the role they have played in the past 19 years in developing young boys into responsible men and also developing friendship through sports.
He praised the Church officers and the Choir for a wonderful service as they allowed the club to host their service in the Church.
The President of the club Frederick Evans thanked Rev. Fr. Charles Campbell for allowing the club to host their service in the church as over the past years they have been moving around different churches to celebrate with them, but said this was the very first time that the club has visited a Catholic Church.
A presentation from the club was made to Rev. Fr. Campbell as a gift so that they would always remember Art Center. He said this was the tradition in the club of giving gifts to the churches visited.
Muslim prayers were also offered at the Sanders Street Mosque last Friday where donations were also made to the officers as a token from the club.
The celebration started in the beginning of September with football matches played every weekend with four teams. Mayor Herbert George-Williams, Frederick Evans, Ritchie Asgill and Shanu Thomas were the captains of the four teams.
At the end of the tournament, Ritchie Asgill’s team emerged victorious.
This year’s celebration would be climaxed by donations to a disadvantaged group to be agreed upon and a Christmas party in December.
