A gang of armed robbers, with machetes, guns and other destructive weapons, stormed Ran-D’s Night Club at Gabriel Street in the West End of Freetown in the early hours of last Wednesday night.
The proprietor of the pub Charles Davies explained that the gang travelled in two flashy cars and entered the club as buyers. They skillfully blocked the exit and the car park in front of the club to facilitate their adventure.
This situation however caused some scuffle as customers in the pub who had satisfied themselves wanted to leave. The proprietor intervened to prevent a fight between the two opposing parties without any suspicion that the men were armed robbers.
As if it was a good opportunity, they snatched the proprietor’s hand bag which then contained an enviable amount of money and swiftly attempted to board their vehicles to leave. God’s intervention was sudden as other customers in the night club rushed and apprehended two of the gangs while others escaped. The two vehicles were equally arrested and presently under police custody at the Central Police station.
Investigations conducted on the activities of the gangs have arrived to the conclusion that the robbers are connected to the Back Street Boys around Brookfields who are particularly known for harassing the lives of peaceful citizens around the country.
In one of the cars arrested were UN ID Cards, passports for UN personnel, counterfeit currencies and mercury liquid, which is alleged, can be used to make fake money. The armed robbers are presently confined at the Central Police Station pending further police investigations
