John Yambasu the Sierra Leone Ambassador designated to Russia, and also a strong member of the All Peoples Congress, has in a strong language condemned the violent attack on SLPP supporters during their rally day organized by the party.
Speaking to the media, Ambassador Yambasu said the act is inhumane and unacceptable and that those associated with the act, must be brought to book even if they are APC members. The Ambassador in his statement convincingly acknowledged the fact that during the launching of the APC campaign and rally, the occasion was peaceful and that it all ended without any violence. “I cannot understand why there should be fighting and wounding during the SLPP rally” Mr. Yambasu said all executive members of the SLPP are friends and relatives and that politics should not serve as a factor to divide nor separate them completely.
He therefore called on the Local Unit Commander Motema to investigate the matter and bring forward whosoever might be connected with the incident. So far five adults and a seven year old boy were wounded, during the riot and they are presently admitted at the Koidu government hospital.
In another incident, the house of Hon. Babonjo of Tombodu, Kamara chiefdom, was also attacked and pelted with stones by some APC supporters, leaving his window glasses completely destroyed and his caretaker badly injured.
The LUC Motema S.P. Jalloh said no arrest has yet been made, as the matter is under investigation. So far members of all political parties in Kono have formed a committee where in they would be coming on air, on a regular basis to educate members and supporters about the election.
