Sierra Leone: The All Peoples Congress (APC) in a meeting held on Wednesday 28th May by the party national executive, Districts and Constituency Chairmen and other senior members in Makeni have taken the decision to appeal the Justice Fischer’s ruling on those that should take part in the emergency Delegates Conference.
The acting Assistant Publicity Secretary Mohamed Pope Kamara told this medium that after the National Advisory Council (NAC) met with intended flag bearers and Lawyers to discuss the ruling, it was in that meeting last Sunday that gave rise to the extended meeting on Wednesday so that all those who are affected can give their thoughts on the ruling.
“After extensive deliberations by all the members, they decided not to accept the ruling and ordered the party to again file in an appeal because according to them the Judge has no right to tell the party who to be delegates.”
Mr Kamara said due to the decision taken in the meeting, it is now clear that the party would have to shelve all conference plans and make sure that they have a favorable ruling from the court before they will call a conference to adopt the new constitution.
He said the party is appealing to all members to patiently wait for the party to make sure that justice is done so that peace will be maintained and unity amongst all members.
The acting Publicity Secretary Sidi Tunis also said that the reason for the appeal is not to allow the party to be disadvantaged in future rulings and also this ruling is not the final as the final ruling will come in September.
“All the members that took part in one voice called for this ruling to be put aside and make sure that the lawyers file an appeal that they hope will be looked into speedily and hope that when the final judgment will come in September it might give the party the opportunity to move ahead peacefully and adopt the new constitution as well as conduct all their elections.”
Mr Tunis said he believes that after September the party will be united and work in the interest of the people as Sierra Leoneans are fed up and their only hope is APC, which he said will make sure that all the problems the people are going through now will not happen again.
