The former Member of Parliament for the opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) Manso Dumbuya has accused the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) party of using thugs in the guise of APC task force to intimidate SLPP supporters across the county at the “nose” of the Sierra Leone Police. The former Member of Parliament made this disclosure to news men in Freetown after a discussion with the Presidential Spokesperson Alpha Kanu that ended without a common ground over allegations and counter allegations as to who is responsible for the current hostilities between the two political parties APC and SLPP that recently developed in to a riot.
Mr Dumbuya voiced serious criticism of the Sierra Leone Police in handling election related violence that happened recently in Freetown and the provinces, accusing them of taking sides with the ruling All Peoples Congress party supporters who were involved in some or all of the cases of political attack and intimidation of their opponents.
He further spoke about the security threats that the APC task force is posing for ordinary citizens particularly supporters of the opposition party “they dress in black and take orders from the APC hierarchy” he stressed.
The APC task force is well funded by the party hierarchy in disguise, as he alleged, they are provided with vehicles, fuel, food and incentives to carry out dubious dealings and political intimidations on ordinary citizens who are doing their normal activities.
Mr. Dumbuya maintained that some of the recent disturbances was ignited by the ruling APC, but the Police personnel and OSD officers only beat up and arrest SLPP supporters, while APC supporters are protected by the Government and some of our (SLPP) supporters have already been charged to court he complained.
He noted that Alpha Kanu of the APC is accusing them of hosting irate youths at the SLPP headquarters and the unity radio is also disseminating hate messages that will create riot and other disturbances, but Manso Dumbuya vehemently denied the allegation.
