Tension is reportedly mounting in the country over the award of party symbol to aspirants contesting the forth coming local council election.
Yesterday regular office work at the APC headquarters Old Railway Line was disrupted and normal traffic halted as angry supporters besieged the area with placards complaining about the award of an APC symbol at Grafton.
According to the head of the aggrieved APC supporters from Grafton headed by Alhaji A J Bangura who doubles as the Secretary General of the Youth wing, he bitterly complained about the award of an APC symbol to a female candidate Kadie Mahoi of constituency 98 at Grafton, for the forthcoming local council election.
Alhaji lamented that authorities at the APC headquarters are responsible for the problems that are erupting from the award of party symbol as constituency members are not considered during the conduct of interviews for the symbol, and some of the candidates are not well known by residents of the constituency he said.
He also disclosed that, some of the candidates are using the influence of money and other female contacts from the above, to intimidate hard working members of the APC, who mean well to the developments of their constituency and the country as a whole.
Bangura claimed that the candidate in question is not known by residents of Grafton and have not contributed anything to the development of that constituency stressing that she is only coming to the APC because they are in power, “we know she belongs to the SLPP but wants to enjoy APC power” he stressed.
He noted that APC supporters at Grafton are disappointed with the party hierarchy for not listening to the legitimate members of the party during the award of party symbol because the former councillor Ibrahim Koroma did extremely well for the people in promoting developmental programs.
He added that the entire membership of APC at Grafton are in favour of Councillor Ibrahim Koroma but he was deliberately denied the symbol because the big people at the party office were not given money to award the symbol to him.
Concluding Alhaji Bangura on behalf of his aggrieved supporters threatened to support any independent candidate that will contest the local council election at Grafton, and promised to whole heartedly snub the ruling APC party in any of their activities.
