The spokesman for the All Peoples Congress Party (APC) Alhaji Alpha B.S. Kanu has told journalists that the APC has won 61 seats and will therefore be in control of the next Parliament.
Explaining that the APC had 12,000 polling agents all around the country Alpha Kanu said “displaying the results of the ballot at each polling station provided unfettered access for our political party agents who relayed these to the results collation center at our party headquarters.”
Consequently he declared “We were therefore in possession of the results from every polling station except Blama town which was not open for voting within 48 hours after polls closed.”
He went on to pronounce that they have won “all the 21 seats in the Western Area, 38 out of the 39 seats in the North, one seat in Kono District, one seat in Moyamba District,” adding “nationally we know we have won 61 parliamentary seats.”
Smiling profusely, Alpha Kanu explained further that all their 12,000 polling agents were distributed two to one polling station with mobile phones and where it was difficult to get mobile phone coverage they provided motor bikes which they used to ride to areas where there is coverage and send the information to their headquarters where they were collated.
Questioned about the results for the Presidential elections since they say they were in possession of all the results two days after the elections, Alpha Kanu said “ that is for now a controversial issue, we don’t want to touch.”
He stated “we know that NEC as of two days ago have started releasing the results piece meal and every single one that has been released has been putting us on top in the ascendancy and that is how we hope we are going to go,” adding “I will tell you for sure that Honourable Ernest Bai Koroma’s popularity is such that even our own parliamentary candidates lost to him in their constituencies.”
