President of Sierra Leone and Leader of the All People’s Congress (APC) Dr Ernest Bai Koroma yesterday at their party headquarter formally launched their party’s campaign for the local council elections.
Addressing a crowd of APC supporters and aspirants, Dr Koroma said that, people of this country voted for the APC in the past parliamentary and presidential elections because they believe that the party will effect changes.
He added that, this time we are going back to them to secure their mandate for the local council elections.
Dr Koroma noted that, “the party is going out to campaign and win the elections in a peaceful and matured manner”. People he said are asking why they should vote for APC. The simple reason is APC party is a party which comes with a change and development.
The leader of the party recalled that when he came into power he set energy and power as his first priorities, adding that everybody knows that when he made a promise that within 100 days he will restore electricity in the city – it happened.
He disclosed that by the end of this year and early next year we will have electricity supply from Bumbuna.
Currently he revealed that Bakasoka will benefit from a two mega watts electricity from the Chinese and soon all the 12 districts will have mini hydro.
President Koroma emphasized on the 36 months turn around promise that he made to this nation and that the difficulties that people are facing will ease up.
Dr. Koroma admonished supporters and aspirants to control all the councils in all the different regions.
He also thanked those who were not given the party symbol for the confidence and trust they have in the party and to the independent candidates who have withdrawn from taking part in the elections.
The leader of the party called on their supporters not to intimidate other party supporters and to conduct themselves in a matured way.
In his speech, Vice President Sam Sumana emphasized on the change that the party is calling for, adding that since the party is a grass roots party they have decided to take it back to them.
The party’s Secretary General Victor Bockarie Foh said that the APC is going into the elections for victory.
He added that, these elections are competitive and so the party should win democratically.
Mr Foh says it was very sad to say in the South and Eastern region the party is not sure of victory there but promise that in his own town Jimmy Gbagbor the two wards there the party will win them.
Mr Birch Conteh Chairman of the Party said that the APC party is accommodative and that every region of this country is represented in the cabinet.
