The ruling All Peoples Congress Party has won the recently held bye election in ward 323 in the Sorogbema Chiefdom Pujehun District in a fair transparent and credible process conducted by the National Electoral Commission and observed by election monitors.
The election was contested by candidates from three political parties namely APC, SLPP and PMDC.
The APC candidate Amara Samba Kallon emerged victorious after securing 687 votes while the SLPP candidate secured 520 votes and the PMDC candidate got 140 votes.
Victor Bocakarie Foh in an interview with our Southern Region Correspondent expressed delight as the APC has started to enter the SLPP back yard and it is the beginning of further intrusion into the SLPP strong holds in the country.
He noted that the APC is determined to spread like wildfire to the length and breadth of the country because the party is committed and determined to develop the country for the benefit of all Sierra Leoneans without fear or favor.
SLPP officials in the Pujehun District are yet to make a comment with regards to their defeat in one of their strong holds.
According to reports residents of Pujehun District were forced to flee to neighboring Liberia for fear of political violence during the electoral process
It could be recalled that the Pujehun District bye election was cancelled due to political violence and intimidation but it was however successfully conducted on the 28th March 2009.
The National Returning Officer is expected to officially announce the result in Freetown this Friday.
In another related development the SLPP lost the bye election at Ward 174 in the Port Loko District to the APC by 750 votes.
