The National Coordinator of All People’s Congress (APC) 2012 elections, Leonard Balogun Koroma, has debunked allegation by the opposition SLPP that Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Guinea is transporting Sierra Leoneans from Guinea to register in nearby Kambia District ahead of the November 19 elections. He described the allegation as “baseless and false with no evidences.”
It was reported in a radio broadcast that over 1000 people have entered Sierra Leone from Guinea in a convoy of vehicles led by the Ambassador to Guinea and that human traffic on the Conakry-Rogbere route has increased significantly.
Mr. Koroma explained that the Ambassador left Conakry on Thursday to attend the first diplomatic civil service conference and that it could have been “a mere coincidence” that when the Ambassador was coming to Freetown in his diplomatic car, these people were also coming into the country.
The Coordinator maintained that all Ambassadors were in Freetown for this said conference organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation which was officially declared opened by President last Friday. He emphasized “the Ambassador did not lead any convoy into the country.”
He however disclosed that his party, the APC is contemplating on taking legal action against the Journalist who reported the matter on radio.
“We are first going to look at the report to see if any crime was committed before we take action as it is mere allegation,” he stated.
