The spokesman for the All People’s Congress (APC), Hon Alpha Kanu, has debunked statements made by Victor Reider, the publicity secretary of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), that the APC is deceiving the public by saying it has won the presidential run-off.
“I am not surprised that Victor Reider is coming up with a strange idea like this. I cannot see mathematically how it is possible for the SLPP, which has been trailing even in the official results for the past four days, to win the election”, he stated.
Hon Alpha Kanu said, “if the SLPP knows it has won the elections let its stalwarts produce their own results and figures”. The APC spokesman said, “we have a collation centre which is doing extremely well. One thing that NEC is doing that we appreciate much is that it has been publishing results systematically to enhance transparency of the process. Mr Reider knows that after results are counted at each polling station they are posted outside which become public documents for everybody to see”.Hon. Kanu maintained that in this run-off NEC provided counterfoil forms for every party agent in each polling station.
“We have heard what the chairperson of NEC has said that in cases where over are proven the commission will invalid them. I think it is time to do so in Sierra Leone. The culture of impunity at elections should be over. It should be arrested,” he noted.
