Another Sierra Leonean player has been discovered: Sallieu Bundu. He plays for the City Stars of the MLS after working with Columbus Crew.
Bundu is looking up to the authorities to have a call to play for his country to show his talent. The Sierra Leonean striker looks to add both size and speed up top for City as they enter the 2008 campaign.
The Cleveland City Stars captured a championship for the city of Cleveland with Saturday’s 2-1 victory over the Charlotte Eagles in the USL-2 Championship. The first of City’s goals came in the 15th minute when the Stars won a throw-in just inside the corner flag. From that position Schulte’s throw came in like a corner kick, and he was able to find the head of 6’4″ Musa Otieno hovering over the crowd. With a flick of his head Otieno put the Stars on the board as he bounced the ball past the Eagle’s surprised keeper. Sallieu Bundu intercepted the errant ball and blasted past his only defender. He dribbled the ball into the box himself and taking time to set up his shot drew the keeper off his line. Bundu then curled the ball into the side netting just under the crossbar.
With trips back to Africa slated for both Sallieu Bundu and Musa Otieno of Cleveland, it could have been easy for the pair to be distracted Saturday night at Krenzler Stadium. Instead, the duo played pivotal roles in the second-year City Stars winning the USL Second Division Championship 2-1 against the two-time champion Charlotte Eagles. In a game that looked destined on paper to be a defensive battle with neither side scoring more than once in any of their four previous meetings, there were plenty of offensive opportunities in the thrilling finale.
