A group of supporters from the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) and the opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) clashed yesterday within the vicinity of the Criminal Investigations Department headquarters.
The clash occurred when sympathizers of Dr Sylvia Blyden who had gone to the CID with placards in solidarity with her, were asked to wait outside the CID building by the officers. While outside, an argument ensued between them and another group of people which later took a political tone.
Those with the placards were accused of being SLPP supporters by another group who identified themselves as APC supporters and in the ensuing argument, placards of those who had gone to support Dr Blyden.
The group was chased towards the SLPP headquarters for where a series of missiles were freely hurled, smashing the back windscreen of a jeep.
The SLPP office was stoned when other groups joined and attempted to enter the party office but were restrained by one Foday Government Wharf who rushed to the scene to disperse them.
