Sierra Leone’s National Team, Leone Stars comprising mostly of home-based players were walloped 3-1 by a full-strength Palancas Negras of Angola in an away friendly at the Chiazi Stadium in the Angolan Northern City of Cabinda last Saturday.
Manucho Goncalves put the host side in the lead in the 15th minute of play and a minute later, Leone Stars defender, Desmond Wellington fired in an equalizer with a long range canon shot.
With six minutes to the end of the first half of play, host striker, Mateus Galiano extended the lead to 2-1. On the resumption of play, 76 minutes into play, Flavio Amado made another striking addition to the goal scoring spree of the hosts, thus sinking the hopes of the visitors. Although the visitors made several attempts at shaking the hosts, the match ended 3-1.
The match is the first encounter ever between the two football sides. According to information reaching this press the match was the fifth and last for the Palancas Negras in their preparation for the 2012 African Cup of Nations to be co-hosted in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.
Angola is in group B, together with Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire and Sudan and will be based in Malabo, capital of Equatorial Guinea.
