Anglican Diocese of Bo donates Le 80 million to Mano Fire victims

The Anglican Diocese of Bo with support from Episcopal Relief and Development in the US and Mission Africa/DMCDO Demark, have on Saturday, February 25th 2012 donated the sum of Le 80, 000, 000 (Eighty Million Leones) worth of building materials to fire victims of Mano headquarter of Sakrim Chiefdom in the Pujehun District. The donation comes in the wake of the December, 31st 2011 fire disaster in which a total of twenty dwelling houses and properties worth millions of Leones were gutted.
Speaking at the distribution site on the bank of Lake Mapelle, the Development Officer of the Anglican Diocese of Bo, Karimu Aruna disclosed that a total of 100 bundles of zinc, 400 bags of cement, 60 packets of roofing nails, 800 packets of wire nails, 20 sets of pots and other household utensils among the materials donated to the victims. He assured the people of Mano of the Diocese’s continued support, making mention of the various humanitarian interventions the Diocese has undertaken in the community.
In his statement, the Education Officer of the Mission, Edward Luseni encouraged the people of Mano to make proper use of the donated items and also encouraged them to send their children to the Mission’s school in order to development them for future leadership responsibilities of their community.
For his part, the Deputy Chairman, Pujehun District Council, David Fawundu thanked the Anglican Diocese of Bo for helping out a people whom he said have lost all they have worked for over the years, describing them as “completely destitute and in need of more help.”
The Chiefdom Speaker, Suliaman Sittah praised the mission for its humanitarian gesture and pleaded with the Mission to also kindly look into the issue of food relief for the people and the possibility of helping out with fishing gears for the affected people, noting that the fishing gears were sources of livelihood for the people.
The Chiefdom Speaker also lauded the good efforts made by the staff of the Anglican Diocese which included, Peter Kabbah, a Field Officer and a native of the community, Alfred Maada Fobay-the Financial Officer, Kemoh Mansary and others for their “true work of God” in rendering assistance to destitute people at a time of need.
The visiting team was taken on a conducted tour of the burnt out houses and the school where they were treated to songs and cultural performances by the pupils. The songs were appeals to the Missionaries to continue providing livelihood assistance to the people and community of Mano. The visiting Missionaries, Volunteers for Mission Africa from Demark included: Camilla Nedergaard, Linda Nochr, Katja Noer and Tobias Ramlor.
