The president of the Sierra Leone Athletics Association, Andre Hope, has cleared the air about the state of the affairs of the association.
He said since they took over in October 2005 they had done everything possible to lift the association to higher height.
Hope said as an executive they were unable to hold congress as all the affiliated clubs were unable to pay their dues.
He noted that according to the constitution, “if there is no paid up club no Congress meeting will be held. If the clubs need congress they need to put their houses in order by paying their dues and from that we can proceed to the actual business.”
Andre Hope explained that he had no grudge against the secretary general, Dauda Sundufu-Sowa, and the decision to suspend him was an executive decision which the International IAAF was also aware of.
Before the suspension a five-man team was set up to give Sundufu the chance to state his side of the story but he failed to attend the meeting.
He mentioned that most of the athletes who demonstrated with placards calling for the restatement of Sundfufu did not know the real picture of what transpired between Sundufu and the association.
