Two ‘pan-body’ (zinc fitted shacks) buildings and a two storey house at 22 and 24 Lewis Street by Dundas Street have been consumed by fire. The incident took place in the evening hours of Tuesday 7th March.
Eye witnesses confirmed to this press that the fire started from the pan-body building which is no.22 .
As the fire intensified with thick smoke and huge flames hitting the two storey building that was just about five yards from the pan-body, the fire eventually transferred to the two storey building. Hawa Jalloh an occupant of theNo.22 explained to this press that she was sitting at the back of the building with friends when she saw the thick smoke oozing from the roof of the pan-body. She managed to enter the house with the assistance of few neighbors to remove some of the properties out side but according to Hawa who was explaining in tears the few properties she managed to safeguard were stolen by on lookers. Mr. Sam Macauley an occupant of the top floor of the burnt two storey house was dumb founded and was astonishingly gazing at the fire consuming his properties seemingly lost for words. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
