Sierra Leone Amputee Social Club (SLASC) on Tuesday January 24th 2012 awarded 14 scholarships to 14 people in the tune of Le 6.5 millions to proceed with their Educational career.
The scholarships were awarded to beneficiaries in primary and secondary schools and tertiary institutions.
Before awarding the scholarships, the Coordinator for the club, Pastor Mambu said that football is a vehicle to address a number of human development issues such as education. He said they at SLASC take education as a priority for human development.
He stressed that education should go side by side with playing football as each one compliments the other. “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy and all play and no work makes Jack a fool,” he stated as he justifies SLASC’ commitment to the promotion of football through sound education.
He disclosed that this is not the first time the club has awarded scholarships. He said two years ago, the club issued similar scholarships to a number of young people who have graduated from their various courses and are now working.
He revealed that the scholarship scheme would be extended to young people in other parts of the country.
