The United States ambassador to Sierra Leone, June Carter Perry, has signed a total of $65, 000 special self help funding programme with five organizations as a selection of the 2007 US Agency for International Development (USAID).
This project is planned to encourage communities to be self reliant and also to undertake similar activities for future purpose, as the project is a grass root assistance programme that allows the embassy to respond directly to local request for small community based development projects.
The project’s selection includes those that promote activities to improve social or economic conditions within their communities. Special consideration was also given to projects that aid access to water, sanitation and healthcare.
The nine beneficiary organizations are Mokelle community, Tamemsu Ex-FGM Farmers Association, Katham Aamorneh Agricultural Association, Women in vegetable Production and Marketing, Sumbaria Community Development Association, Kadada Community Bridge Project, and the Amputees and War wounded Agricultural Development Association.
