Magistrate Hannah Bonnie of the Freetown Magistrate Court No. 1 at Pademba on Monday 4 November 2019 granted Le 200 million bail to Mohamed Kamara. On 6 September 2018, at Garden View Shell , the accused Mohamed Kamara allegedly converted Le 137 million into his possession, money given to him by Mahawa Barrie, a business women to purchase a truck vehicle. The accused was charged with four counts of Fraudulent Conversion contrary to Law. And testifying in Court, Umaru B.Jalloh noted that on the date in questioned, he was at home , when his mum ( the complainant , Mahawa Barrie) gave him an instruction, to give the accused the sum of Le 137 million, for the purpose he did not know. The witness said the accused is a family friend, that was introduced to him by his mother. Jalloh stated that after receiving the call from his mother , few minutes later, he also got a call from the accused about the same money issue. The witness said the accused drove to his residence at Garden View with a jeep to collect the money, where he told him that he did not have the complete money in his possession currently unless they go to the bank, for him to redraw the remaining cash. Umaru told the Court that,he was accompanied,byJohn Turay, a family friend to him at the Union Trust Bank, where he redrew the remaining money. ” The accused told me to help him Carries the money at GT bank,” which he said he adhered to , and finally gave the accused the money at GT bank in the presence of his friend John Turay. He added also that he called his mum ,informing her that he had given the money to the accused, noting also that the accused confirmed it to his mother that he had also received the money from him.

While testifying also, before Magistrate Bonnie,John Turay confirmed to the Court that Umaru B.Jalloh gave the sum of Le 137 million to the accused in his presence. During cross examination by Lawyer F.B Conteh, Umaru Jalloh said he normally oversees all of his mother’s business in town , and emphasized that his mum just ordered him to give the accused the said money without informing him for the specific purpose. Magistrate Bonnie later granted Le 200 bail to the accused courtesy of an application made by his counsel and adjourned the matter 18 November 2019.
