Percy Waters-Bright 63, suffering from glaucoma was allegedly assaulted by the Metropolitan Police, who claimed that they received orders from the Mayor George Herbert Williams.
However, Superintendent Brima Jah who is in charge of the Metro Police- a component of the City Council- has denied the allegation.
Waters-Bright who recently returned from abroad for a defective vision examination explained to Awoko that on Tuesday 25th November at around 5pm, he was having a siesta on his veranda at 194A Fourah Bay Road, “when I heard knocking on the front gate.”
As the knocking continues, “I then heard voices shouting, who are those filthy people living in this house,” he explained.
The aged-man intimated that the Metro Police then came inside the compound and instructed him to go and clean the gutter which runs through his front gate, revealing that an argument then ensued between him and the Metro Police, who Waters-Bright said were stench with “alcohol and marijuana.”
The old man said, he informed them that he had an organized waste disposal system in his house and piles of disposable black bags which are usually taken to a dump-site with one of his distribution vehicles.
Percy Bright who is a retired businessman said his son- Emrick; Security- Mohamed and Maid- Sarah came to assist him when the Metro Police pounced on him and started beating him.
He said in the process his left eye which he is trying to secure was punched and blood was oozing from his jaw; adding that while trying to regain a blurred vision his mobile phone, wedding ring and bracelet got missing.
He accentuated that his maid was strip naked; security and son were arrested, as the Metro Police alleged that they were abusing the Major and the President, adding that they were later offered bail after been detained at the Central Police Station for a day.
He added that they were told to report at the Station everyday.
“I intend to seek a legal redress,” he said.
Percy confined that after the case, he intend leaving the Country for good, noting that he has not expected such unprecedented violence, coming back home as a retired man.
Superintendent Jah, on the other hand disclosed that Percy and his family attacked the Police.
He said the team which was led by the Mayor encouraged people to clean their surroundings for healthier living; but that arriving at this house the inmates started abusing the Mayor and the President, Superintendent Jah claimed.
In that case, he said, “if they insulted the President they should be arrested.”
The Superintendent said what is glaring is that for all the houses the team visited on that day none of the resident resisted, except Percy Bright’s house.
