This year Olympic Day Run will take place this Sunday in Freetown.
Addressing some of the print media sports journalists at the National Olympic Committee (NOC) conference room of the committee members senior sports journalist Samuel John said that in this year’s Olympic Day Run about 300 Sierra Leoneans will be participating in this year’s competition.
He said that during the race those who will be taking part will be running and jogging noting that his day has been set aside by the International Olympic Organization to help develop athletes in the world.
He mentioned that the day is very important as those who will be taking part will be able to develop their muscles and some of the committee members who were present also gave their own contribution
They said that in Olympic Day Run there is no winner and the Olympic ideal is for everybody to take part.
He said during the race there will be three different groups, the first group will be the athletes (youth) they will start from the starting point which is Eastern Police and they will be flagged by the city mayor Herbert George Williams.
The second set of runners will be the middle –age and they will start from the Bank of Sierra Leone and they will be flagged by the Governor of the Bank of Sierra Leone Samura Kamara.
The last set of runners will be the Veteran Athletes and they will start from Saint John and they will flagged by another veteran athlete.
Samuel John went further that during the race those who will be taking part will take the following routes Eastern Police, Sani Abach Street, PZ roundabout. Willberforce Street, Siaka Stevens Street, Campbell Street, Saint John, Savage Street Skye Street to the National Stadium.
He mentioned that at the national Stadium A G Koroma who is the Secretary Organizing Committee will introduce the chairman of the occasion which will be the Director of Sports Saidu Mansaray. And the Vice President of the National Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone Dr Patrick Coker and the President of NOC Henry G Moore will give the Olympic Day message and the minister of Education Youth and Sports Dr Minkailu Bah will give the keynote address and the distribution of certificates to those who participate in the run. He also mentioned that the last year Olympic Day Run took place in Bo which was very successful.
