Reacting to allegations made by Mohamed Lainkuray Bangura at his Lightfoot Boston Street office on Tuesday, Abdul Karim Koroma (AKK) has fired back saying, “I don’t want to speak or talk on behalf or neither did I want to be Mohamed L Bangura’s spokesman.”
Mohamed L Bangura, at a press briefing, had said he never asked Abdul Karim Koroma (AKK) to speak on his behalf that he was sick and could not make it up for the All People’s Congress (APC) peace press conference.
AKK explained that, “we have a break in the negotiation in the party office between the two groups of the party… I phoned him (Bangura) and he told me that he could not make it because he was sick and that he had taken high blood pressure medication”.
He stated that, “[Mr] Bangura asked us to go ahead with the negotiations and that he would not be able to be there and he gave me absolutely no indication as to whether he had a change of attitude with regards to the talk. I believed him and so I reported this at the press conference of the party on Wednesday 4th April 2007”.
Emphasizing that oneness and peace had prevailed in the party; AKK said “I don’t know if Mohamed Lainkuray Bangura has any doubt about the peace and oneness in the party because we do have it. The group in which we belong was a group of about 15 people and 98% of that group has taken the decision to reconcile with our brothers in the main stream [the Ernest Koroma camp].”
The former minister and author added that, “[Mr] Bangura wants to make himself a lone person against the wishes of the vast majority of that group, that is entirely up to him and we have decided to reconcile with the party in the interest of the party. And there is absolutely no way Bangura can go on without that group. It is a group of professionals, lawyers, doctors and former ministers of government and ML depends entirely on the energies and support of this group”.
Commenting on the cases of illegality that Mr Bangura made mention of at his press conference, AKK pointed out that, “ML is talking about illegal cases some of these are libelous legal matters which I believe himself has very scanty understanding of and we made a very clear interpretation of some of the decisions of the Supreme Court which sadly ML and another person did not understand”.
“We were clear about our position and legal matters or no legal matters, we are not interested any more, it is a pure political issue and we wanted to bring purely political solutions to the matter and that is why we decided to say enough was enough the party must be reconciling within itself…so that we will be going as a united force for the 2007 elections,” he maintained.
