The Kids Advocacy Network-Sierra Leone has awarded the National Child Development Award 201 to Airtel-Sierra Leone, one of the leading Telecommunications Company for its outstanding contributions toward child development in the country.
The President of Kids Advocacy Network, Edmond Alim Fornah said the objective of the award is to recognize the contributions of institutions toward national development as a motivation for others to help the needy in Sierra Leone.
The award was endorsed by the Minister of Social Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affairs Mr. Steven Ngaoja, who commended Airtel Management for supporting and promoting the welfare of children in the country. He expressed commitment to work with Airtel-Sierra Leone and The Kids Advocacy Network for the development of children and congratulated Airtel for the Award.
Nominations for the awards were done through radio discussions and phone-in programs, as well as other activities undertaken in primary and secondary schools.
Airtel was selected for the award for introducing the ‘Airtel Raising Stars’ which is considered as the biggest ever football tournament in the country for the Under-17 category and its school adoption programme through which the mobile company adopted a whole school in Tombo in the Western Rural District. Airtel-Sierra Leone is also on record for sponsoring popular children’s programmes such as the Christmas party for street children organized by Future for Children-Sierra Leone. A number of schools have also benefited from an in-service exposure of Airtel staff, equipments and other departments in the world of Information Communication Technology.
“Airtel remains committed to the promotion and development of the future children of Sierra Leone,” said an Executive Official of Airtel, adding, “Airtel friendship is a unique blend of affection, loyalty, love, respect, trust and loads of fun for its customers.”
The Airtel official went on to note further that the successful completion of the first phase of the Friendzy Promo was a clear demonstration of the company’s commitment to the development of its subscribers.
For a month now, Airtel had put smiles on the faces of over 170 customers across the country through its give and take promotion. This promotion, Airtel maintains, is specifically geared towards giving back to its customers what they have been giving to Airtel through top ups and other services offered by Airtel.
“The Friendzy promotion extended its generous hands to many Airtel subscribers irrespective of their nationalities,” Lebanese national, Sharma S. Kumar, with mobile No. 076603303 noted, when receiving a multi purpose Samsung phone he had won as part of the promotion. He congratulated Airtel for a job well done and promised to continue using the network because according him, “it is very reliable”.
A Chinese national, Xia San, owner of 078691230 appreciated his Nokia phone prize with a big ‘thank you’ to Airtel. Also, Dr. Palmer with mobile No. 076-604-503 who took home a shopping voucher worth One million Leones (Le1,000,000), commended Airtel for its transparency and its attitude of giving back to its customers.
According to Airtel, the promotion continues. The company says it still has a whooping three hundred & fifty million Leones (Le350,000,000) worth of prizes to be given out to its precious customers. To qualify for the draw requires Airtel SIM holders to top up 100 units or more in order to win either of the following prizes: a free Nokia phone loaded with 3000 units, five hundred thousand Leones (Le500,000) cash prize, a Samsung phone, as daily prizes; one million Leones (Le1,000,000) shopping vouchers and a home theatre as weekly prizes, an air ticket to Dubai, and tickets to watch Manchester United matches and a five million Leones (Le5,000,000) cash as monthly prizes.
