The National Democratic Alliance Party (NDA) candidate for the forth coming Parliamentary bye-election, Sheriff Barrie has blasted the APC and SLPP Parties as inept.
The NDA candidate went through the nomination process at NEC; and in an interview with Awoko, he averred that the two major political parties have greatly contributed to the demise of the Country.
Sheriff Barrie would be contesting against two other candidates from the APC and SLPP for the vacant seat in Constituency 106, which was formerly occupied by the late Hon Cecil Osho Williams.
He lamented that what prompted him to contest was due to the series of neglect in the Constituency coupled with the lack of facilities. “ The Constituency seems to be neglected; and in my opinion, I have never thought that this constituency is represented in Parliament as the MP was only voted for because of baseless party loyalty and infact, the Constituents have never set eyes on him after he was elected on to his death” he said.
The NDA candidate further disclosed that the Constituency he wanted to represent suffers from acute shortage of water supply; and this has caused school going children to search for water as early as 5 am, for which nothing has been done. Sheriff also noted that the Constituency is populated with lumpen youths who have been neglected to banditry and gambling. “Should I be given the opportunity to represent them, my focus would not be limited to setting them free from the courts, but to draw up a program that would engage them and make them useful citizens,” he said.
He also spoke of how the Constituency is in the main commercial center of the City, but whose businesses are not protected in terms of high taxation. “When I shall have been elected, I shall engage the NRA and the Ports Authority on the issue of high taxation and also agitate for the protection of the business community”.
He also pledged to support the freedom of Information Act, the fight against corruption, lawlessness and national cohesion.
He remarked that “I am not going to be a sleeping Member of Parliament or an ‘awol’ MP.
Sheriff Barrie would on Saturday be among University graduands who would be receiving degrees at FBC.
