Eleven suspects were yesterday arraigned at the Freetown Magistrate Court No 1 for malicious damage and riotous conduct at 10 Zainab Drive, off Aberdeen Road, over the award of APC symbol for the forthcoming local council election.
According to the charge sheet, the eleven suspects are alleged to have rioted and maliciously damaged a vehicle windscreen worth Le 8,000,000 belonging to Selwina Francis who won the APC symbol for the Aberdeen Road area.
The alleged suspects believed to be APC supporters are Sulaiman Kamara, Ishmael Jalloh, Lamin Kamara, Mohamed Kargbo, Umaru Kamara, Yousif Kanu, John Brima, Mohamed Sieh Kamara, Issa Sesay, Abu Dumbuya and Ahmed Tejan.
According to police prosecutor A S Kargbo 7681, they were caught rioting and damaging property on 10th April 2008 at Aberdeen Road after the APC executive awarded the party symbol to Selwina Francis for Constituency 111 whom they claimed was SLPP.
The youths are also alleged to have pelted stones and bottles coupled with burning of tires at strategic points at Aberdeen Road.
The eleven suspects were represented by four defence counsels but were refused bail.
The matter comes up again tomorrow.
