Afrigas, Sierra Leone’s leading supplier of Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) has signed a vendor agreement with fuel retailer, Total Sierra Leone, to make Afrigas and its accessories available to customers across Sierra Leone through its distribution networks.
The deal explains that Afrigas’ distinctive yellow bottles will soon become a familiar site on Total Sierra Leone’s service stations nationwide; a development which was greeted by many users of Afrigas products as “good news” considering the benefit of LPG and the constrains they face in accessing the products.
In a short speech after the agreement, the CEO of Afrigas, Jihad Swaid, said “Since we launched in September 2012, households across Sierra Leone have come to understand the economic and environmental benefits of cooking with LPG, particularly when compared to traditional fuels such as wood or charcoal”.
He noted however, that many potential users of Afrigas, particularly outside Freetown, have not had access to the product. Therefore, he went on, the agreement with Total will change that, making Afrigas LPG available in major towns across the country through Total service stations.
Following signature of the agreement, a well-attended orientation workshop was held for Total station dealers, in which they were educated on the merit and uses of LPG and Afrigas, and familiarizing them with techniques for the safe handling, display and storage of the bottles, as well as Afrigas LPG accessories such as burners, grills, stoves and regulators, will also be on sale.
An environmentalist, Ibrahim Yusif observed that the availability of Afrigas across the country, especially the provinces is very crucial, as it will help reduce deforestation of the environment from wood and charcoal burning, as well as lessen respiratory ailments caused by the inhalation of smoke from cooking fire.
Commenting on the agreement, Ted Mugisa, Marketing Manager of Total Sierra Leone said, “Total Sierra Leone has long been known for the sale of high quality fuel. We are delighted to be partnering with Afrigas in this initiative, which will enhance the customer shopping experience by providing a one-stop-shop for all their fuel and convenience shopping requirements”
