African Socialist International ends two day conference
A two-day Regional Conference, organized by the African Socialist International (ASI) has ended at the Miatta Conference Hall in Freetown. This is the first Regional Conference hosted in Sierra Leone and it brought together African Revolutionaries and Progressive Groups from Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Cameroon, Liberia, Ghana, Guinea, Equatorial Guinea, Mali, Senegal, Ivory Coast, South Africa, England, America and other parts of the World, with the aim of establishing a formidable regional structure. The Director of the African Movement, Chernor Alpha Bah noted that, this year marks the 50th anniversary since the late Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana conveyed the first Conference of Independent African States in Accra in 1958. He added that it has been 50 years since that historic conference and several processes have being undertaken both at National, Regional and International levels to unify Africa and liberate the people from the parasitic relationship with imperialism and capitalism. Today, he said that postcolonial realities in Africa itself have challenged the ability of Africans to independently run their own affairs, adding that it appears that years of independence have meant absolutely nothing. Bah noted that, “it is true that Africans are a struggling people and we continue to struggle on every front to effect meaningful and productive change in the conditions”. On the historical and theoretical basis for ASI, Luwezi Kinshasa said that there is a need for African countries and Africans all over the world to be united in the struggle for liberation. He added that, “we believe that revolutionary change is a must after 500 years when Africans were sold as slaves to Europe. Chairman of the occasion, Dr Ibrahim Abdullah from the Department of History and Africans Studies, Fourah Bay College (FBC) said that Africans were the most productive in the world during the slave trade. Presentations and speeches were made from solidarity groups and delegates from different countries. At the end of the conference concrete recommendations to forward the upcoming liberation and unification of Africa and African peoples around the world; and adoption of a comprehensive plan of action for building and consolidating the ASI in Africa and around the world, were made.
