Africa Re-insurance Corporation has donated Information Communication Technology items to the Sierra Leone Insurance Company, on Tuesday 1st October 2019, at the conference room of the Ministry of Finance. The items included: laptop, desktop, cabinet wall mount, cyber roam firewall, HP color laser jet, HP laser jet, canon image runner, cannon scan LIDE 120, APC uninterrupted power supply 1500VA, APC UPS 3000 VA, electric drill 240 volt, ICT tool box, crimping tool, cable tester, cat 6 cable box, faceplate socket- 50 set, switch CISCO catalyst 2960 series 24 port, pateh panel cat 6 2A port, hand held blower, Epson EX7210, back up device (Seagate external hard drive), RJ45 – 5 boxes, Kaspersky antivirus-50 user licenses, window server HP, quick books, SPSS, Microsoft office 2016 package, genesis software, agent and broker software, website development/redesign. Chairman Sierra Leone Insurance Commission (SLICOM), Arthur Yaskey, said, “We live in a world of digital age, I therefore challenge everyone to embrace it.” He said, the Commission which is the regulatory body had little or nothing in terms of ICT until when he approached the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Africa Re-insurance Corporation, Corneille Karekezi, and his management who assisted them with some computer hardware and the compliment of some software.

He said, the gathering marks a new exciting beginning in the SLICOM, for Africa. He noted the challenges which the ICT sector faces today in the country, adding that the logistics support to the Commission will put the Commission in a better and timely position to collect, collate, analyze, and file reports to government of the operations of the insurance industry. “In line with government emphasis on human capital development, we look forward to more training opportunities from Africa Reinsurance for our upcoming professionals in insurance” he went on, noting some of the financial assistance from them during the Ebola outbreak and the mudslide. Receiving the items, the Minister of Finance, represented by Simeon Jonjo, Director of Information Communication Technology (ICT), thanked the delegation from the reinsurance corporation for their support to SLICOM. He said there was need to transform the insurance companies in the country. Africa Re-insurance Corporation was established on the 24th February 1976 in Yaounde Cameroon and is the foremost regional re-insurance institution in Africa today. Following a recommendation of the African Development Bank (ADB) an international agreement was signed by the plenipotentiaries of thirty (30) member states of the then OAU including our country Sierra Leone.
