Eku Coker’s face has been disfigured with caustic soda after being accused by a woman of stealing a yellow five-gallon oil container.
Sylvester Coker, the elder brother of Eku, narrated to Awoko that on Sunday, “my younger brother Eku was mercilessly mobbed and caustic soda thrown at his face, as he was accused of stealing a yellow five-gallon oil container which belongs to a lady at Susan’s Bay where they all reside.”
He alleged that after the ruthless beating of his brother, “Hassan Mansaray and Abdulai Tarawallie who are also residing at Susan’s Bay captured my brother and splashed caustic soda at his face.”
After seeing the effect of their hardnosed act, Mr Coker said, “…they went into hiding. [but] When the youth saw the injury that these two men had caused they mobilized and demanded that they come out or they would raze their houses down with fire,” Mr Coker said.
Mr Coker alleged that when the two men who committed the havoc saw the desperation of the angry mob, they then rushed to the Eastern Police Station where they reported that “my brother had splashed soda on his face in order to cause them trouble after being beaten for stealing an empty five gallon container”.
“As God could have it”, he said, “as they were making their statements to the police, my brother arrived at the station aided by one man who identified them as the suspects.”
He continued that when the police saw the magnitude of the injury they detained the two men who started blaming one another for their action.
Mr Coker said the matter was being investigated, while his brother was at the Connaught Hospital.
