Accused duo remanded in Le62m land fraud saga
Modupeh Johnson and Abdul Rahman Sesay, the first and second accused in a land fraud saga at No. 2 River, were on Thursday 23rd July 2020 remanded by Magistrate Mark Ngegba of Court No. 2 in Freetown. The duo were remanded to the Male Correctional Facility on Pademba Road in Freetown for defrauding Isata Kabba, a resident of Kissy Road, of Le62 million paid for a three-town lot in Western Rural Area.
Prosecuting witness and complainant Isata Kabba recalled approaching Sesay on 6th May 2020 for a piece of land. The second accused told her he knew a person with land for sale at No. 2 River. She said she eventually paid Johnson Le62 million for the land, and signed the receipt witnessed by Sesay, Johnson and his wife. Kabba said the pillars and zinc structure erected on the land were demolished when she paid a visit to the land with her son. She was later told the land was government property.
After several phone calls and efforts to recover her money failed, she went to the Adonkia Police Station and made a report. In response, the defense lawyer for the accused asked the court to defer cross examination as they have an understanding with the prosecution to have an out of court settlement. Meanwhile, the accused were remanded and the case was adjourned to 28th July 2020.
