The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has concluded investigations and has vindicated Constant Kargbo the former Secretary General of the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society (SLRCS). Mr Constant Kargbo has been under rigorous investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission for two years now and the Commission recently reached conclusion to free him from the allegations made against him in October 2017. The former Secretary General was alleged to have duped DFiD $450,000 and misappropriated Le 1.8 billion Leones. These have all been proven by the ACC to be untrue after the two year investigation. Excerpts from a letter written by ACC to the current Secretary General of the SLRCS states“…a thorough investigation into the complaints was conducted and had reviewed legal opinions proffered thereon: and have made the decision not to file any charges against Mr Constant H Kargbo, given the fact and circumstances surrounding same. The Commission takes the view that there does not appear to be sufficient evidence to prove, at the required criminal standard, that Mr Constant Kargbo committed the alleged offences, based on the statements taken and the analysis of the documents received as evidence“ The letter also stated that the ACC investigation was unable to prove the allegation of misappropriation, against Constant Kargbo and other local officials of the SLRC in respect of the management of Ebola funds, as these funds were not managed by the local staff.“ In an interview with Mr Constant Kargbo about opinion of ACC, he said this is wherever all scandal and plan to bring him down. He promised to tell his own story for the world to know in the coming days. Mr Kargbo averred that but as a grassroot Red Crosser for over 27 years he had strived to work in the interest of the organization as well as the country.
Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.
“When I took over the leadership of the institution, I started stringent reform programmes to enhance the potential and service delivery of SLRCS, but some staff members and some ex-officio of the institution were not ready for the change, which adversely affected them due to their negative behavior and practices. This led to me being framed that put my reputation on the line.” He said there had been serious power struggle for his position since he assumed it. He noted that for him to put measures in place to create growth and accountability, he met stiff resistance that led to him being investigated for two years. “I am a happy man today because the professionals who have the authority to investigate corruption in Sierra Leone have finished the matter and they have finally set me free as today I am a happy man free of all charges. Mr Kargbo averred that now that he is free he hopes that the people of Sierra Leone will know that he was set up as some people were bent on destroying his hard earned reputation he has worked for over the years. He said he will take a break to digest the findings of the investigations and before thinking what will be his next step, but said he is the happiest man on earth for the freedom that has been given by the ACC.
