The Public Education Department and External Outreach Department of the Anti –Corruption Commission (ACC) has concluded a 3 day National Integrity School Club seminar at the Pastoral center hall off Dama road in Kenema under the theme: Catch Them Young.
Earlier in the programme the Director of Public Education and Outreach Department Dr. Ivan Ajibola Thomas informed the integrity clubs of the new dispensation of the commission based on the National Anti Corruption Strategy (NACS) recently launched by His Excellency Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma in Freetown.
He disclosed that the Commissioner of ACC Lawyer Abdul Tejan Cole was also present in Kenema at the moment to do the Eastern region presentation of the NACS document and to build up a coalition of civil societies in the fight against corruption.
Dr. Ivan Ajibola Thomas said the participants of the seminar comprised representative teacher coordinators and pupils from the 27 Integrity Clubs Schools Countrywide, adding that the aim of the seminar is to plan, design and produce a two years national plan of action for integrity clubs in the country.
He said participants will revisit the aims and objectives of integrity clubs in the country, and identify strategies that would be adopted in carrying out the activities of the clubs and to design a more effective monitoring and supervision mechanism for the clubs nationwide.
Dr. Thomas stressed that this document should be able to reactivate the integrity clubs that have faded out of existence in schools and to revitalize non-functional ones.
The Senior Public Education Officer Mr. Desmond Johnson in his contribution spoke on the need to invite and take onboard the values of accountability, transparency and the best practices in our school children. Mr. Johnson emphasized that integrity and comportment are vital in the socialization of the young in our society nowadays for effective contribution to national development.
He said that the integrity club representatives would be given a free hand in the formulation and implementation of the two year plan of action of the Integrity clubs in schools and ACC will help in the process he assured.
The Coordinator of the programme Miss Koloneh Sankoh distributed educational materials based on the new dispensation of the ACC.
