To demonstrate its commitment in the fight against graft, the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday held a one-day focus group discussion on the revised National Anti Corruption Strategy (NACS) at the conference room of the Ministry of Finance.
Welcoming the participants, Commissioner of ACC, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara said the Commission stands as the official voice of government and the people of Sierra Leone on corruption, because of that, the Commission does not only prosecute, but also implements strategies aimed at preventing acts of corruption.
He disclosed that a recent National Perception Survey revealed that 75% of the public is in need of public education, which is why they are engaging Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to strategize the terms and dictates of the Act.
He emphasized on the need for partnership in the fight against corruption, noting that every Sierra Leonean is required to come on board the anti corruption fight in the interest of the development of the country. He called on the need of expertise, professionalism and record management as crucial in the fight to combat the menace in the country.
Mr. Nabilal Musa Kamara, the Director of NACS referred to the National Anti Corruption Strategy as a road map for curbing corruption, noting the significance of the holistic nature in which the strategy was put together involving MDAs. The essence of the National Perception Survey, the NACS Director said, was for them to identify key indicators of corruption peculiar to MDAs. The revised National Anti Corruption Strategy was presented to the President on 30th October last year.
Comments and questions formed the high point of the discussion which mostly expressed views of the respective MDAs through their representatives.
