The second batch of Sierra Leoneans going on pilgrimage to Mecca is expected to leave Freetown today as families and friends bade them farewell. Reports say the first batch of the 900 pilgrims had left the Lungi International Airport yesterday after President Julius Maada Bio and his government wished them well and further advised them to be good ambassadors of Sierra Leone in the Holy City of Mecca in Saudi Arabia.mnAddressing pilgrims at the Siaka Stevens Stadium, President Bio congratulated the pilgrims in advance on this year’s pilgrimage and stated his delighted to bid them farewell on behalf of the government and people of Sierra Leone.

The President admonished them to follow the instructions of the authorities accompanying them so they can perform their pilgrimage successfully. Reports say the pilgrims will first land at the Jeddah International Airport where they will be transported to the Holy City of Mecca. The pilgrims are expected to return to Sierra Leone in the first week in September.
