The following suspects Mohamed Sesay, Mohamed Kamanda, Lamin Kamara, Salieu Sankoh, Mohamed L. Sanie, Sulaiman Kamara and Foday Bangura alleged to be supporters of the All Peoples Congress (APC) aspirant Paul Kamanda of Ward 46 in the Wandor chiefdom in the Kenema district are in police custody at the regional police headquarters in Kenema for allegedly burning NEC election materials on Sunday July 6, 2008.
According to the police the suspects were found roughly dressed with blue and other black substances rubbed on their faces and body when they stormed the polling center code 02136 at Baama in the Wandor chiefdom and attacked the polling officers and other staff working for NEC.
They demanded the election results and then collected all the election materials and set it ablaze and then terrorized the scene living some people running into the bush, without recognizing where the master sheet containing the local council results were kept.
However police has visited the scene where the election materials were burnt and exhibit were collected and brought to the Baama police post.
The Regional Crime Officer Samuel Sanie Sesay reaffirmed police commitment to properly investigate the matter and charge to court all suspects connected.
Meanwhile one Fatmata McCarthy of Jagbwema village in the Wandor chiefdom in the Kenema district also reported to the police that she was attacked by a group of people because she was in support of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP). Nine suspects have also been arrested in connection with the matter and are in police custody in Kenema.
