The managing director of Hughes Security, Rev. Samuel Marcus During, has disclosed to Awoko that 641 guards have lost their job due to a termination of contract by Celtel.
He added that, “these guards are trained and qualified men and women and so we don’t want to lose them,” noting that they were trying to get other contractors to employ these guards.
The managing director revealed further that their company started operations in 1992 and that they had employed over a thousand guards and other workers.
He explained that his company had over the years got a clean record, adding that the conditions of service of their workers were attractive and that they were also entitled to medical facilities, traveling allowances among others.
Rev. During maintained that guards were paid according to how the contractors bargained per guard for a month.
He pointed that, Tigo, First International Bank (FIB), Sierra Rutile and a Nigerian firm had already intervened.
