Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – In a fervent display of resilience and athletic prowess, the 5th edition of the Single Leg Amputee nationwide league is set to kick off in Kailahun from February 1st to 6th, 2024. This competition, which is expected to draw attention from sports enthusiasts nationwide, will see six teams vying for the coveted President Bio trophy.
Albert Mustapha, the Public Relations Officer of the Single Leg Amputee team, shared insights into the upcoming tournament, emphasizing the significance of President Bio’s unwavering support for the team. Noting the strides made since President Bio assumed leadership, Mustapha expressed gratitude for the substantial backing received.
The Minister of Sports is slated to officiate the commencement of the competition, adding prestige to the event. Mustapha detailed the attractive prizes awaiting the participating teams, with cash prizes, trophies, and medals up for grabs. This edition’s unique feature is the dedication of the competition to President Bio, reflecting appreciation for his impactful support.
The stakes are high for the players, as the best performers will earn the opportunity to represent Sierra Leone in the Confederation of African Amputee Football (CANAF) scheduled to take place in Cairo from April 19 to 28, 2024. To ensure optimal preparedness, selected players will enter an early camp, honing their skills for the continental competition.
The teams gearing up for the nationwide league include defending champions Freetown, expected to field two teams, alongside representatives from Bo, Kenema, Makeni, and the host city, Kailahun.
